The BMW i3 was developed as part of BMW's sustainable initiative and represents a significant step towards electromobility. The first generation of the BMW i3 was introduced in 2013 and was in production until 2022. Led by designer Richard Kim and engineers Ulrich Kranz and Benoit Jacob, the BMW i3 set new standards for sustainability and innovation. The car is particularly known for its carbon fiber-reinforced plastic body (CFRP), which makes it lightweight yet sturdy, and for its futuristic design and generous use of recyclable materials in the interior.
The BMW i3 features an electric motor that delivers a power of 170 hp (125 kW). The maximum torque of 250 Nm is instantly available, allowing the BMW i3 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 seconds. The range of the first model was approximately 130 to 160 kilometers (80 to 100 miles), depending on driving style and external conditions. For longer journeys, the optional Range Extender was available, a small petrol engine that charges the battery and increases the range to about 300 kilometers (186 miles). Also innovative is the One-Pedal Driving: braking energy is regenerated when the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal.
This miniature model in the 1/43 scale, manufactured by iScale, faithfully replicates the BMW i3. The model can be found in the collection of Modelly member "mmuellerb". The exterior of the miniature model is painted in true-to-life black and silver, with the black roof perfectly contrasting the silver body. The model also accurately depicts the distinctive blue accents on the grille and side sills. Inside, the miniature offers incredible detail: seats, dashboard, and controls are clearly visible and accurately designed, as well as the five-spoke wheels, which are clearly visible in the pictures.
The 1/43 scale miniature model is a great example of the precision and attention to detail that iScale puts into its models. Specific elements such as the frameless windows, the opening hood (if the model has this feature), and the replication of the electric charging ports make this model a valuable collector's item. The color scheme and blue accents provide a beautiful contrast and make the model a visual highlight. The BMW i3 is not only interesting for its technical innovations but also for its significant contribution to the history of electromobility.
