The Porsche 924 was praised as a "beginner model". Thought as a vehicle for people who wanted to gain a Porsche but could not afford or wanted a new 911er. The basic price was also about 10,000 DM below that of a 911.
It was the first Porsche with a water-cooled front engine and transaxle drive concept.
The model of the 924, however, was never regarded by many as "real" Porsche. Very many components came from the VW and Audi area.
A point was particularly that the engine was used firstly in the Audi 100 and also (slightly modified) in the delivery truck VW LT.
Engine: 2-2.5 liters displacement, 5 cylinders and 125 HP power output.
As an example:
At the end of the 70s until the middle of the 80s some Porsche 924 were bought by the police authority North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Their area of application lay, of course, in the area of motorways. Thanks to their transaxle design, the 924 were considered to be very safe and good-natured.
However, it soon became apparent that the 125 hp vehicles were "under-motorized". In addition, the trunk hardly offered space for a police equipment. Most of the vehicles were soon out of service. In North Rhine-Westphalia, however, the model of this model is still in the service of the police and may leave its garage for special occasions. These are, however, only representative tasks. Nevertheless ... the Porsche is doing well!
The model:
Very nicely implemented by Minichamps. Extremely small clearance, a very nice varnishing and well implemented details make the model to something special. A highlight is certainly the motormaking which is on an unusually high level.
