Between 1959 and 1968 the sleek Caravelle was built.
The development of this vehicle is a little confusing .... The design came from Pietro Frua whose company was taken over by Ghia. Ghia had already produced the very successful Karmann Ghia, so there is a certain similarity between the VW Karmann and the Renault Caravelle.
A prototype was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1958 and then presented at the Automesse in New York in 1959. It is said that the name "Floride" introduced there was immediately changed to "Caravelle" for Europe. However, different information is provided here. It is certain that from 1962 all cars were named Caravelle.
The technology came from the Renault Dauphine. The Caravelle is about 30cm longer and also somewhat wider.
Engine:
4 cylinder in-line engine in the rear, depending on the year between 850 and 1100cc displacement and 36 to 52 HP power.
