The legendary Porsche 550 A
The original on which the 1/18 scale model car is based is the famous Porsche 550 A. This car, also known as the "Spyder," was built between 1956 and 1959 and is now an iconic piece of automotive history. The 550 A is the evolved version of the Porsche 550 and was distinguished by remarkable technical specifications and numerous racing victories. The designer of this successful model was Erwin Komenda, and the technical lead was Ernst Fuhrmann. The Porsche 550 A was equipped with a 1.5-liter Fuhrmann engine (Type 547) and could deliver an impressive output of 135 horsepower. Weighing only 550 kilograms (1212 pounds), it could reach speeds of up to 220 km/h (137 mph), making it a formidable competitor in the racing scene. Two significant events in 1956, the year the Porsche 550 A was first built, were the passing of the Interstate Highway Act in the USA and the release of Elvis Presley's song "Heartbreak Hotel."

The original 550 A made its debut at the Nürburgring during the Eifel Race in 1956 and achieved numerous victories, including at the Carrera Panamericana and the Targa Florio.
